2013 Ride stationary banner

We are really excited to be celebrating our 5th Annual Ride for the Cure on September 21 at Locust Hill Preserve in Culpeper County! Ride for the Cure is an equestrian trail ride event that has raised more than $400,000 for Komen Central Virginia over the past four years. Organized by and for horse lovers, the event matches the therapeutic nature of horseback riding with a desire to support breast health education and screening for underserved women in Central Virginia. A portion of the funds raised also support research that will develop better treatments and eventually cures for breast cancer.

If you are a horseback rider and would love to spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon on a trail ride with others for a good cause, click here for more information. There’s nothing like a horse dressed up in pink to brighten your day!

Volunteer Spotlight:  Susan Reynolds

2013 August - Volunteer Spotlight - Susan Reynolds

Since moving back to Richmond in 2001, Susan Reynolds and her daughter have celebrated Mothers’ Day by participating in the Race for the Cure. This year’s Race was especially memorable for Susan because she arrived very early that morning to help set up in the rain for the Survivor V.I.P. Tent before walking the course with her daughter. She says, “It was exhilarating!”

As an 18-year breast cancer survivor, Susan has loved working with other survivors on the Survivor Committee and knowing the wonderful energy they share. She began volunteering as a Komen Educator two years ago because she wanted to help educate others about breast cancer, help them find needed resources and information, and support those who are newly diagnosed.  Susan is also involved with Komen to support the quest for better treatments and, eventually, a cure.

If you ever stop by the office, you may be fortunate to meet Susan helping with one of our frequent mailings. Then, you will understand why her cheerful, caring, and dedicated demeanor inspires other Affiliate volunteers and staff members.
