Join Us for a Race for the Cure® Team Captain Workshop
You likely have friends, coworkers, and family members who are
passionate supporters of the breast cancer cause. Race for the Cure® is
your chance to take action and show that you are all More Than Pink™!
Form a team in honor or in memory of someone you know who has been
impacted by breast cancer, or simply to help make a difference - together.
Did
you know... team members make up over 60% of our Race participants
and raise over 75% of the Race donations? Simply put, teams are the
backbone of our Race. This year, we again need the help of our teams to
enable us to make the biggest impact possible against breast
cancer.
Please join us on Saturday, March 11 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM for a fun-filled Race for the Cure® Team Captain Workshop.
This interactive session, facilitated by members of the Race Committee, will
teach Race Team Captain best practices, allow you to meet
like-minded supporters of our cause, and provide you with experts to
answer all your questions. And if that’s not enough, you might also walk
away with a cool prize!
The workshop is open to everyone - those
who are considering being a Team Captain for the very first time as
well as experienced Team Captains who are looking for new ideas.

Men Get Breast Cancer, Too!
The statistics may be low, but still about 1 percent of all breast cancer cases in the U.S. occur in men. That means in 2017, about 2,470 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men, and 460 will die. They are our husbands, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, uncles and our friends.
That’s why we encourage family members to talk to each other about male breast cancer. We encourage doctors to talk to their patients about it. Learn all you can.
Here are some important facts you should know:
The most common sign of breast cancer in men is a painless lump, hard knot or thickening in the breast or chest area, however, any change in the breast or nipple can be a warning sign of breast cancer in men including:
- Change in the size or shape of the breast
- Dimpling, puckering or redness of the skin of the breast
- Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple
- Pulling in of the nipple or other parts of the breast
- Nipple discharge (rare)
Known factors that increase the risk of breast cancer in men include (in alphabetical order):
- BRCA 1/2 gene mutations
- Family history of male or female breast cancer
- Gynecomastia
- Klinefelter syndrome
- Obesity
- Radiation exposure
Routine breast cancer screening tests such as clinical breast exams and mammograms are not typically recommended for most men. However, some men at higher risk of breast may benefit from screening.
If you have concerns about any of the warning signs listed above or your risk of breast cancer, talk to your doctor. Remember, survival rates are highest when breast cancer is found early.
