  1. One lucky person will win a car! Thanks to Local Presenting Sponsor Richmond Ford, someone will walk away from Race Day the proud owner of a brand new 2016 Ford Focus.
  2. New 5K Race Course. Say "goodbye" to the huge hill on Byrd Street at the end of the course. This year, you'll take a right just past the Virginia War Memorial and meander back down to Brown's Island to the Finish Line.
  3. Different Start Time for Our Competitive Participants. We've moved the start time for the Competitive 5K to 7:30 AM. Competitive participants can run at 7:30 AM and then join their friends, family, and team at 9:00 AM for the recreational 5K - 2 for the price of 1!
  4. New Brown's Island Layout. We've redesigned the island layout to make it easier for you to find community resources and fun activities.

  6. Porta Potties on the Race Course. No more having to wait until you finish the Race. We can hear your collective sigh of relief.
  7. New Team Fundraising Recognition Levels. Teams are the backbone of our Race! Along with the normal team recognition categories, this year on Race Day, we'll be recognizing the teams that have reached our new Fundraising Recognition Levels.
  8. One lucky person will win 25,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Miles. Thanks to National Sponsor American Airlines, someone will win 25,000 American Airlines AAdvantage Miles good for travel, car and hotel awards, gift cards and more.
  9. Food Vendors on Brown's Island. The Boardwalk food truck will be on Brown's Island serving up yummy breakfast food. King of Pops will also be there with their all-natural frozen treats.
