11th Annual Komen Central Virginia Survivor Celebration
When Heidi Floyd was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant with her fourth child, she was terrified. Termination was the only advised course of treatment followed by chemo, radiation, and surgery; but the life of her son was not a price she was willing to pay. It seemed utterly hopeless. Enter Dr. George Sledge, a Komen Scholar, one of the medical researchers that receives Komen funding to investigate new treatment options. His words changed everything, "I'll tell you what we're going to do. We're going to save your life, and while we're at it, we're going to save that little baby, too." And they did just that.
Join us on Friday, September 30 at the Jefferson Hotel and hear Heidi tell her courageous and encouraging story about her breast cancer journey.
Tickets are $25 for breast cancer survivors and $35 for all others. Tables of ten are available for $250. Tickets for this event are selling fast. We hope to see you there!

Are You Ready for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). Susan G. Komen has a vast library of breast health education materials. This information is available for you to download, bookmark or even share with loved ones from our website, komen.org. Each document contains a wealth of knowledge to help you understand breast health issues.
Komen is pleased to offer educational materials in a variety of languages. The materials, which can be downloaded for free, are written in plain language and are culturally appropriate. Each document is tailored to the audience it is trying to reach.
We have a limited number of these materials in our office available for you to request for your upcoming NBCAM events. Contact us at info@komencentralva.org or (804) 320-1772 for more information.
If you have not already done so, make October the month to schedule your annual mammogram. Early detection saves lives. If you or someone you know needs a mammogram and are uninsured or under-insured, please call us at (804) 320-1772.
We invite you to join us in October to raise AWARENESS about breast cancer and to encourage everyone to take ACTION to help us save lives right here in our community.
