THANK YOU KOMEN FRIENDS!
As 2013 draws to a close, we at Komen Central Virginia are reflecting on the impact made on breast cancer in our community, thanks to your volunteer and financial support. Because of your volunteer time, Komen Central Virginia has been able to share breast health information with the community, host events honoring survivors, and organize the Race for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer programs and research. Well over 3,500 hours were donated by our 400+ volunteer corps in the past year. With a Komen staff of only four serving 60 cities and counties in Central Virginia, volunteer time is a precious gift.
Your monetary gifts have provided $535,502 in grant funding to the outstanding organizations listed below who have delivered breast health services to over 4,300 uninsured women and education to more than 12,000 in Central Virginia.
With grateful hearts, we wish the best for you during the holidays and our continued progress in 2014 toward ending breast cancer.
Thank you to the Komen Central Virginia 2013 Grantees!

As the Access and Outreach Specialist for Nueva Vida in Richmond, Vivian Robles sees first hand Komen Central Virginia’s impact on Latinas and their families as they make the difficult journey that begins with a breast cancer diagnosis. She is thankful for Komen’s support of programs that provide education, screening, and treatment support to Hispanic women throughout the continuum of breast care.
Having volunteered with the Affiliate since 2010, Vivian is “honored to be part of such a wonderful group of people that not only have big hearts and compassion for others, but also are willing to share their skills and strong professionalism” towards the organization’s mission of saving lives from breast cancer. She says she truly enjoys working with the staff members and other board members and volunteers that help in many different ways to make Komen Central Virginia a strong advocate for breast health in the community.
Komen Central Virginia is grateful for Vivian’s service and her passion for empowering others and ensuring access to quality breast care for all.
