Dear Friends,

The past week has been challenging for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, as you are well aware.  Please take a minute to read this statement from Nancy Brinker and the Komen Board regarding the issue.  The Central Virginia Affiliate would like to thank you for your continued support.  As you will read in this month's newsletter, we are proud of what we are accomplishing in our area and there is still much to do in partnership with you.

Congratulations 2012 Komen Central Virginia Grantees!

Central VA (vertical)The Central Virginia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently awarded community grants totaling $587,944 to support breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs in the Central Virginia Affiliate service area.  Your commitment to local fundraising efforts, such as the Komen Central Virginia Race for the Cure®, has allowed us to fund 13 projects with the following organizations who will improve the lives of women and men in our area.   Learn more »

A Valentine for Those You Love

Valentine for eNewsletterI remember the excitement of Valentine’s Day when I was a child.  Giving Valentines enabled me to tell all of my friends how I felt about them through the simplicity of a perforated card, and receiving them meant that people liked me, too.  In our busy adult lives, we tend to forget the importance of how a small gesture that says “I care about you” can brighten someone’s day.

Komen has a suggestion for a grown-up Valentine that you can send to every woman who impacts your life. Learn more »

Learn to Become a Breast Health Advocate

Part of Komen’s mission to save lives includes empowering others in the knowledge of breast health.  With only a small staff here in Richmond, we rely heavily on volunteers across Central Virginia to help us let others know the importance of early detection.  To give you the tools to talk with others about the importance of breast health and Komen’s mission, we will be offering three volunteer training sessions in March.  If you are unable to attend but would like to join our effort to save lives, please let us know by emailing info@komencentralva.org.
