2016 survivors - thank you

On May 7, thousands from all across Central Virginia converged on Brown’s Island for our  2016 Race for the Cure®. What a great day it was!

We would like to again thank all those who were there to stand beside us in the fight against breast cancer, whether a co-survivor, sponsor, donor, Race participant, caregiver, friend or volunteer. We would also like to extend a special thanks to all the breast cancer survivors who allowed us to honor and celebrate them on Race Day. You are and will always be the heart of our Race.

And did you hear? One lucky, very deserving breast cancer survivor, Angie Deffenbaugh, won a 2016 Ford Focus courtesy of Richmond Ford!

Thanks, and we hope to see you at next year's Race - our 20th!

Help Us Finish Strong

The Race for the Cure is our largest fundraiser each year. Funds raised support our neighbors who face a diagnosis of breast cancer. Through the generosity shown at this event, we will be able to add significantly to the more than $7.8 million that Komen Central Virginia has been able to contribute over 18 years to fund community grants and research.

We would like to thank and recognize the Top 10 Fundraising Teams and Individuals.

2016 Race - Top 10s as of June 14, 2016

You can still make an impact in our community after the Race by fundraising or making a personal donation. We will continue to accept Race donations through the end of June.

Remember, up to 75% of Komen’s net revenue is used to support local community-based education, screening, and treatment programs. The remaining 25% of the net income supports the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program (scientific research grants).

How Komen Research Is Making a Difference

In the last 20 years, breast cancer death rates have declined 34 percent. And we’re honored to have been a part of that. With your help, we've been able to accelerate advances and fund research across the globe.

Komen Research Investment since 1982

But, we still have more to do. We’re committed to supporting research that will one day identify and deliver the cures for breast cancer.

Featured Research Story:  Driven by her passion to help patients like her mother and grandmother who both died of metastatic breast cancer (MBC), Komen Funded Researcher Dr. Priscilla Brastianos has identified some of the genetic changes that are unique to breast cancer cells that spread to the brain and will use these changes to develop new treatment options for MBC.
