Make plans now to join us for our 10th Annual Survivor Celebration on Saturday, October 3. Each year, we gather for a special luncheon to celebrate breast cancer survivors who have been diagnosed, fought through treatment, and come out on the other side surviving and thriving! This is a unique opportunity for survivors, their co-survivors, and guests to network, celebrate, pamper themselves, and support each other during an afternoon at Richmond’s landmark Jefferson Hotel.
Come be inspired by Kristin Harris, a young breast cancer survivor and the 4th generation in her family to have the disease, as she shares her message of hope, humor, and tenacity.
Tickets are $25 for breast cancer survivors and $35 for all other guests. Tables of 10 may be purchased for $250. This is one of our most popular and inspirational events each year, so don’t wait to get your ticket.

A Great Place for the 2015 Ride for the Cure® Virginia... Great Meadow
Over the past six years, Ride for the Cure® Virginia has raised over $600,000 for Komen Central Virginia to help those affected by breast cancer. The money raised allows us to fund programs that provide free breast health education, breast cancer screenings, and diagnostic procedures to those in need in our community. A portion of the donations fund cutting edge research that will one day find the cures.
This year's Ride, the 7th annual, will be held on Saturday, September 26 at Great Meadow in The Plains and will feature new trails over newly purchased territory; exciting rider gift bags including handmade jewelry and Dover Sadlery gift certificates for all riders; a trick horse ride by Jeff Dwyer; FEI level freestyle dressage; and an after-Ride party with a DJ, auction, prize drawings, and a delicious meal catered by Fresh Connections. This year's Ride is one you won't want to miss. See you at Great Meadow!

The early 2000s brought my first
interaction with Komen Central Virginia. It was the last year Race for the Cure
would be held in Byrd Park. As part of the vision of the radio station I worked
for at the time, we were always committed to supporting community events,
particularly those geared toward families and saving lives. An emcee was
requested for the event. My schedule was clear so, I happily volunteered. What
a powerful day it turned out to be! While I knew the basic Komen mission, meeting
the survivors, Komen staff, volunteers, participants and taking in the amazing
energy, knowledge and commitment from all involved was life changing.
You see, being a married father of
three, including two beautiful daughters, I knew that day that Komen was an
organization I wanted to support more than any other. I also knew that we
needed to help Race for the Cure grow in attendance and awareness so that as
much money as possible could be raised locally to support the Komen mission of
saving lives and ending breast cancer forever! Simple mission right? One would
think. Being a simple kind of guy, I decided at that first Race of mine to
simply ask everyone participating that year to bring a friend the next year. If
that were to occur, twice as much money could be raised. With the hope of doing
that each year, we would one day reach the point of never needing to hold the Race
or related events again, realizing that dream of imagining life without breast
cancer! I am truly a dreamer and a believer that such things can happen. Read more>>
